I think he's overestimating the cost of DAS.  For us it is more like $250/TB or less, rather than the $2500/TB he states.  Exchange storage frequently never gets reprovisioned after it is set up, and I'd trust the exchange DAG replication way more than a SAN which would just replicate corrupt information blindly.
