Windows Vista

So I have an Elonex eXentia at home that was running Windows XP Media Centre and it worked like a dream.

Then for some stupid reason I thought it would be good to blat the box and install Vista Ultimate.

The install was a but funny, as half way into the install my DVD drive disappeared?! Strange, but I have an external drive so it was okay.

So I should have stopped, but I didn’t!  Anyway, what happens now is that sometimes, it finds my DVD drive, but most of the time it doesn’t.

How and why the hell is this?  The BIOS of the box can see the DVD drive, but Vista can’t!

The drive is not exotic.  The BIOS says its a HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4040n.  Maybe it’s me, but I just DONT understand why a brand new OS like Windows Vista does not find a damm DVD drive.

I am going to have a play a bit longer, but if I can’t work it out, then it’s back to Windows XP!

My Xbox360

Okay so I have my XBOX360 for just over a year (typical!)

Over the last couple of weeks, when I have connect to Live, I get “forced” updated.  After the first update my 360 started playing up.  After the second update it just would not start up at all!

So I surfed the web and found a KB that did’t apply.  Basically my powerlight turned green, but the three red light flash on the Ring of Light.

Check the video too!

So lets call Microsoft.  I didnt and get this, my 360 is out of warranty and it’s going to cost me 123 euros to get it fixed!  They have to pick it up and take it to the repair centre, findout what is wrong and send it back!

Its funny, so my 360 was working like a dream until the two updates and the Microsoft guy said “No that would not cause your 360 to fail” .. yeah and monkeys might fly out of my butt!

So now I have to wait 15 days for the damm thing to come back .. cant wait!

Zune, Zune, Zune

Well it has taken some time, but after ordering my Brown Zune from Expansys in November and not getting it, I found one on Ebay and got it within a week ;-)

My nice Brown Zune is currently charging.

First impressions, I like it.  The software is easy to install, and it automatically updated  the firmware with great ease.  The screen is nice and big and the control pad is good.  The Zune is actually quite tactile and has a nice weight.

I have also ordered the Zune Travel Pack that is waiting to come from the USA.

Once I have had a bit more of a play I will update you on my finding
