Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1: Installation Steps

Okay, here are the steps we documented to reduce the number off installation issues ;-)

Exchange 2007 NON Cluster Installation
o   Apply OS hotfixes
    o   942084
    o   938486
    o   938648

o   TCP Chimney patch
    o   Netsh int ip set chimney DISABLED

o   Install Forefront for Exchange Service Pack 1

o   Stop FSCController service and all other Exchange Services
o   Start Windows Installer Service
o   STOP OpsMgr Health Service
o   STOP Performance Logs and Alerts Service

o   Disable Forefront for Exchange
    o   C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Forefront SecurityExchange Server>FSCUtility.exe /disable

o   Rename the folder c:ExchangeSetupLogs to c:ExchangeSetupLogs.RTM

o   Set ‘MSExchangeEdgeSync’ to Manual if Disabled

o   Install Exchange Service Pack 1 (setup /mode:upgrade)

o   Enable Forefront for Exchange
    o   C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Forefront SecurityExchange Server>FSCUtility.exe /enable

o   Rename the folder c:ExchangeSetupLogs to c:ExchangeSetupLogs.SP1

o   Set ‘MSExchangeEdgeSync’ back to Original Setting (Disabled)

o   Reboot the server

o   Once back, logon and Check Event Logs for errors

o   Start the Exchange Management Shell
    o   Test-Servicehealth

Exchange 2007 Mailbox Cluster Installation

Node  A
o   Make this the Active Node

o   Apply OS hotfixes
    o   942084
    o   938486
    o   938648

o   TCP Chimney patch
    o   Netsh int ip set chimney DISABLED

o   Take Cluster Off Line
    o   Ensure the F drive is the only resource online in the Exchange group

o   STOP FSCController service and all other Exchange Services
o   STOP OpsMgr Health Service
o   STOP Performance Logs and Alerts Service

o   START Windows Installer Service

o   Install Forefront for Exchange Service Pack 1

o   Move ALL Cluster resources to Node B
 
Node B
o   Apply OS hotfixes
    o   942084
    o   938486
    o   938648

o   TCP Chimney patch
    o   Netsh int ip set chimney DISABLED

o   Take Cluster Off Line
    o   Ensure the F drive is the only resource online in the Exchange group

o   STOP FSCController service and all other Exchange Services
o   STOP OpsMgr Health Service
o   STOP Performance Logs and Alerts Service

o   Start Windows Installer Service

o   Install Forefront for Exchange Service Pack 1

o   Reboot Node B
    o   Wait for it come back

Node A
o   Reboot Node B
    o   Wait for it come back
    o   Bring All Cluster Resources online

Node B
o   STOP FSCController service and all other Exchange Services
o   STOP OpsMgr Health Service
o   STOP Performance Logs and Alerts Service

o   Move the Cluster to Node A

o   Rename the folder c:ExchangeSetupLogs to c:.ExchangeSetupLogs.RTM

o   Install Exchange Service Pack 1 (setup /mode:upgrade)

o   Reboot Node B

o   Once Back
o   Move the cluster group to Node B
o   Take the Exchange Cluster Resources Off Line
o   Move the Exchanfge Cluster Resources to Node B

o   Update the CMS to Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1 (setup /upgradecms)

o   Rename the folder c:ExchangeSetupLogs to c:ExchangeSetupLogs.SP1

Node A
o   STOP FSCController service and all other Exchange Services
o   STOP OpsMgr Health Service
o   STOP Performance Logs and Alerts Service

o   Rename the folder c:ExchangeSetupLogs to c:.ExchangeSetupLogs.RTM

o   Install Exchange Service Pack 1 (setup /mode:upgrade)

o   Rename the folder c:ExchangeSetupLogs to c:ExchangeSetupLogs.SP1

o   Reboot the server

o   Once back, logon and Check Event Logs for errors

o   Ensure the cluster is on line

o   Move All Cluster resources to Node A

Node B
o   Reboot the server

o   Once back, logon and Check Event Logs for errors

On the Active Node (Node A)
o   Check Event Logs for errors

o   Start the Exchange Management Shell
 o   Test-Servicehealth
