Energy efficiency in the data center can drive down costs and minimize the environmental impact of operations. In this webcast, we discuss what Microsoft has learned as it implements disruptive, energy-efficient computing ideas in its own data center operations. These energy-efficient computing ideas should change data center designs at Microsoft and across the IT industry. We provide many examples that illustrate some of the key elements of this data center transformation, including outside air cooling.

Tuesday, May 05, 2009: TechNet Webcast: Hyper-Green Virtualization: Scaling Enterprise IT for Energy Efficiency (Level 200)
Resource utilization. It’s an increasingly important topic, and if your business is constrained by poor server and storage utilization, it’s likely you’re over-investing in hardware and wasting space and power, not to mention propagating operational inefficiencies. These in turn increase costs and lead to negative environmental impacts. This webcast will help you learn how to consolidate your datacenter, reduce your costs, and improve agility by minimizing capital expenditures, reducing operating costs, and improving service levels with Microsoft Virtualization products and technologies. A new demo, demonstrating VMM/PRO powering down servers, also will be presented.

EVENTS / WEBCASTS: October 2007

Friday, October 05, 2007: TechNet Webcast: Message Security, Active Protection, and Compliance with Exchange Server 2007 (Level 200)
This session covers three main topics. We start with a look at message hygiene. Your e-mail system is constantly being bombarded with unwanted messages, and as a messaging administrator, it is your job to prevent that. Next, we discuss messaging policies. Following recent accounting scandals and the global terrorism threat, governments and their agencies require organizations to store, and produce upon request, pertinent e-mail messages. Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 provides policies to achieve this goal with policies that are simple to set up and administer. Finally, we look at how messages can be made secure while in transit through your organization, between organizations, and across untrusted networks, such as the Internet.

Microsoft Exchange Server Jetstress Tool (32 bit)
Use Jetstress to verify the performance and stability of a disk subsystem prior to putting an Exchange server into production. Jetstress helps verify disk performance by simulating Exchange disk Input/Output (I/O) load. Specifically, Jetstress simulates the Exchange database and log file loads produced by a specific number of users. You use Performance Monitor, Event Viewer, and ESEUTIL in conjunction with Jetstress to verify that your disk subsystem meets or exceeds the performance criteria you establish. After a successful completion of the Jetstress Disk Performance and Stress Tests in a non-production environment, you will have ensured that your Exchange disk subsystem is adequately sized (in terms of performance criteria you establish) for the user count and user profiles you have established. It is highly recommended that the Jetstress user read through the tool documentation before using the tool.

Microsoft Exchange Calendar Update Tool
Before you run the Exchange Calendar Update tool, refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base article 930879, “How to address daylight saving time by using the Exchange Calendar Update Tool,” for complete information about potential effects on your IT environment and user base.

After installing the Windows and Exchange daylight saving time (DST) updates, all old appointments (both recurring and single instance) that occur during the extended DST period will be incorrectly displayed as having moved back one hour. These appointments will need to be updated so that they display correctly in Outlook, Outlook Web Access, and CDO-based applications. The Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool enables end-users to update their own calendars. (For Outlook 2007 the time zone update feature is built into the application.)

The Exchange Calendar Update Tool enables administrators to avoid the challenges involved with broadly deploying the Outlook tool to all users and ensuring that each user runs the tool correctly.

MM&M UG UK March Meeting (Tuesday 27th March 2007)

In london (thank god) .. sign up now! (http://www.mmmug.co.uk/forums/820/ShowThread.aspx#820)

Here are the details of our March MMMUG meeting.

This event will be held in London at the MS SOHO offices. This is a very special event as we are being joined by Jason Langridge who is otherwise known as Mr Mobile! Check out Jason’s blog for all things mobile: – http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/default.aspx

The meeting will be held on Tuesday 27th March. Directions to the venue can be found below.

The meeting will be a mixture of PowerPoint, Demos and Discussions and perhaps most exciting, I have no doubt that Jason will be able to bring along some New Mobile Devices running Windows Mobile 6 to show us! There will also be a Q&A time at the end of the meeting.

The agenda for the meeting will be as follows: (although I may tweak the timings slightly)

18:00 – 18:30            Arrival
18:30 – 18:35            Introduction to speakers and the aims of the group
18:35 – 19:30            1st session; led by Jason Langridge, MS
An introduction to Windows Mobile 6.

19:30 – 19:50            Food!
19:50 – 20:45            2nd session; led by Jason Langridge, MS
General discussion around mobility, how people use it and where the technology is going in the next few years.

20:45 – 21:00            Summing up and suggestions for future meetings.
21:00                        The End!

Go here (https://www.livemeeting.com/cc/msevents/view?id=wc020207) stick in you name and then download the 4mb WMV file.

It would be a great idea if MS made the available automatically via an RSS feed

Humm, can’t sync the wmv to my Zune! .. says that it cannot convert the file to the format required by my Zune Device  .. wonder why!
